K9 Tosca – U.S. Coast Guard

Died 12/5/20
Handler – Officer Nick Beane

Please keep Officer Nick Beane and the Beane family in your thoughts and prayers as they prepare to say goodbye to their beloved K9 Tosca Saturday. Retired K9 Chief Tosca is a decorated member of the US Coastguard MRST. “I always knew this day would come but never knew it would be this hard. It is with the heaviest of hearts that I tell you that on Saturday retired United States Coast Guard K9 Chief Tosca walked into the vet for the last time. Tosca had a stroke and doesn’t appear that she will ever pull out of the effects it caused. One of the absolute hardest decisions I have ever had to make. A decision I have already questioned numerous times but after talking with so many mentors, brothers, sisters and family I am positive this is what is best for her. Tosca is and forever will be a legend. Tosca accomplished everything a Coast Guard K9 could ever accomplish and more. From protecting POTUS, VPOTUS and the Pope to protecting large crowds at events like Super Bowl LI. From protecting our children in local school threats to protecting whole cities when evil men where placing bombs around New York City. From jumping from helicopters and hoisting up the side of ships to sleeping in first class on planes while we traveled to the next city she was needed in. But he greatest accomplishment of all was being a great big sister. Tosca lived the life most K9s dream of. From day one coming home she always had a place on the couch. She ate with us, slept with us, vacationed with us, helped us raise our children. The last 36 hours have been filled with laughter, tears, joy and pain. It is extremely difficult to put into words the emotions that the Beane family are going through. But with the love and support we are continuing to receive I know that will we get through this and Tosca will be in a better place. Tosca will be laid to rest at the VA Beach Vet Hospital on Pleasure House Road Saturday evening surround by family, friends and past coworkers. I will not be posting pictures of her under the flag because that isn’t the way she should be remembered. She will be remember as the high strung 100 mph fur missle that she always was.”
