Suspect, Coweta K-9 killed in pursuit that ended in gunfire; deputy wounded
A police K-9 was killed in a shootout near Atlanta that also left the suspect dead and a deputy injured.The shooting happened Wednesday night following a multi-county car chase through metro Atlanta, according to the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office.The Georgia Bureau of Investigation identified the suspect as 23-year-old Jason Andre Wilson from Atlanta.During the shootout, officials said Wilson shot a K-9 and a deputy. The K-9 was killed, and the deputy was injured.Officials said the situation started at around 11 p.m. when a deputy tried to stop a vehicle on the highway and the driver didn’t pull over, leading to a chase.Wilson reached speeds of 110 mph, according to the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office.A deputy stopped Wilson’s car using a PIT maneuver and released K-9 Titan to help catch Wilson.Wilson opened fire on Coweta County deputies, Fairburn police officers and K-9 Titan using an AK pistol.The police dog was struck multiple times and died at the scene, officials said.A deputy was also struck multiple times, suffering several graze wounds.Law enforcement shot back at Wilson, killing him.The deputy shot was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover.K-9 Titan served with the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office for over five years.The shooting is being investigated by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
