Hero dog Tiger dies

Tiger who retired from the police service last year died at the Virar farm on Saturday. He is the third dog who helped detect bombs during the Mumbai terror attack to pass away in the last four months. Tiger the black Labrador who had made the Fizzah Farms in Virar his home since May 2015 was suffering from lung infection. He was on regular treatment for lung infection but his condition worsened on Friday night, said animal activist Fizzah Shah, in whose farm all the 26/11 canines had been relocated post retirement. On June 18, Tiger’s childhood buddy and colleague Sultan passed away in the farm. Tiger who had been close to Sultan was lonely since his buddy passed away, recalled Shah, who will give a dignified burial to the canine in her farm. Both Tiger and Sultan worked for the Goregaon unit of the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS). According to Shah, Tiger loved playing with footballs and she had left many in the farmhouse. But, his favourite pastime was to catch the coconut falling from the trees in the farm. “He would always run for the fallen coconut and go around the farm playing with it,” said Shah. Later, the caretakers had to play with him only with coconut.
