K9 Sophie – Richmond, Virginia

Died 2/5/21

It is with heavy hearts we ask you to join us in remembering the life and service of retired Richmond Police K-9 “Sophie”. Sophie peacefully passed away in the presence of her loving family on February 5th, 2021. Sophie was a 15 year old, gentle Labrador Retriever whose excellent nose dedicated 5 years of service to aiding the Richmond Police Department detect Narcotics within the city. Throughout her career, Sophie worked alongside multiple K-9 Handlers and attended public events in the city to raise awareness around the Richmond Police Department K-9 Unit. Following her official retirement in 2014, Sophie was adopted into a loving family home where she spent her sunset years enjoying long walks, playing fetch with her favorite ball (all day if they would let her) and sun-bathing outside in her big backyard. Sophie’s family notes that she insisted always being at their side indoors and very much appreciated a good belly rub! Friends of Richmond K9, please join us in keeping K-9 Sophie’s family in your thoughts and prayers as we offer our most sincere condolences…Rest easy good girl. They’ll take it from here.
