Michigan State Police K9 euthanized because of bloat

The Michigan State Police Marshall Post has announced their K-9, Solo, passed away March 6 after suffering a medical emergency.Solo was taken in for emergency surgery to repair a twisted stomach, which is a life-threatening condition that German Shepherds are susceptible to, according to officials. It was decided during surgery to euthanize 6-year-old Solo, since the surgery would not have been successful.“This is a huge blow to the Marshall Post family, and as you can all imagine, a bigger impact on Trooper Miller and his family,” said F/Lt. Barry Schrader, post commander of the Marshall Post.“In speaking with Trooper Miller, Solo finished his career like a trooper would,” he added.According to the Michigan State Police, Solo helped secure 4 kilos of methamphetamine during a search warrant hours before his medical emergency.Canine handler Trooper Jereme Miller was Solo’s partner, and said this week marked five years since he and Solo graduated from canine school. The duo had 68 successful apprehensions, where they tracked down fleeing suspects or missing persons.Trooper Miller strongly believes they were on pace for 100 apprehensions during Solo’s career.Solo also helped seize over 40 pounds of narcotics during his service. The Michigan State Police thanks Solo for his dedication and service to the Michigan State Police and citizens of Michigan, and asks everyone to keep Trooper Miller and his family in your thoughts during this time.
