K9 Sjors was born in the Netherlands and was imported into the United States by Vohne Liche Kennels, in Denver, Indiana. K9 Sjors was tested and selected by his future handler – Cpl. La Rue, in 2008. K9 Sjors and his handler Cpl. La Rue completed canine training and entered service as a Newark Police dual purpose canine team in 2008. K9 Sjors & Cpl. La Rue served the citizens of the City of Newark and region as a team until K9 Sjors retired in 2016. During his career, K9 Sjors was deployed on over 800 vehicle and building searches, 83 human tracks, hundreds of burglar alarms, and numerous fugitive apprehensions. Throughout his career and in retirement, K9 Sjors was a treasured family member and will be missed. K9 Sjors & Cpl. La Rue were always excited to participate in the annual Main Street Mile demonstration. K9 Sjors was always the professional. During his career he put his skills on display before thousands of people while conducting over 250 demonstrations. K9 Sjors was very sociable and quickly became a favorite of those in the community. In 2016, K9 Sjors was able to retire. Since then, K9 Sjors brought a great deal of joy to the La Rue family. The officers and employees of the Newark Police Department remember K9 Sjors fondly and wish to extend our sympathies to the La Rue family during this difficult time.
