Salem County Sheriff’s Office Mourns Loss of Police Dog

With great sadness, Sheriff Chuck Miller announces the passing of K9 Officer Roxy. On behalf of the Salem County Correctional Facility and entire Sheriff’s Office we offer our sincere sympathy to Roxy’s handlers, Sgt. Ian Todd and C/O Andy Hecksher and to the SCSO K9 team. Roxy became part of the SCSO family in 2010 following her unsuccessful stint as a seeing eye dog (she was too hyper for that). However she was excellent as a narcotic detection dog and also friendly enough to be utilized many, many times as a demonstration dog. She was great with children and members of the public. Roxy was assigned to a couple of handlers but in 2012 was assigned as Sheriff’s Officer Ian Todd’s partner where she remained until her assignment with Corrections Officer Andrew Hecksher at the Salem County Correctional Facility. Roxy was involved with well over 500 narcotic investigations which resulted in a substantial number of criminal arrests and the confiscation of large amounts of illicit drugs. In addition, Roxy was an excellent K9 diplomat and was utilized in hundreds of community events and demonstrations due to her pleasant and friendly disposition. Most recently, Roxy was assigned at the Correctional Facility and was utilized as a drug detection dog and deterrent at SCCF as well as other jails in the area.It appears Roxy succumbed to natural causes. She will be sorely missed by all members of the SCSO and the Salem County Community. Services are pending at the Salem County FOP at a date and time to be determined.
