Lafayette Police announce passing of K9 Officer
Lafayette Police Department has announced the passing of one of their own. Tuesday, the department posted on Facebook about the untimely passing of K9 Ripo. The K9 officer died Monday, September 9, 2019 following an unexpected diagnosis with lymphoma. The Lafayette Police Department says that Ripo started showing signs of distress earlier this week and was rushed to the vet. After multiple tests, it was found that Ripo had lymphoma and he showed continuous and progressive signs of discomfort. According to the Facebook post, because of his quickly deteriorating condition, the decision was made to euthanize Ripo to prevent further suffering. “Ripo was a very friendly dog and was known for his strange ‘smile,’” the post states. Lafayette police say Ripo was the biggest K9 in the K9 unit, but was also the most docile. “He loved to be pet by all the police officers he came in contact with but had an instinct to know when it was time to work. His experience, dedication and loyalty to his partner and to the Lafayette Police Department will truly be missed.”
