Hobbs Police Department Mourns K9 Rico
It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of K9 Rico on the morning of 03/25/2020. K9 Rico had served the Hobbs Police Department and the City of Hobbs since early 2014. K9 Rico’s handlers were (1st Handler) Sgt. Matthew Burleson and (2nd Handler) Officer Brandon Marinovich. K9 Rico had a drive like no other and was excited to jump into the back of the patrol unit every shift. Once retired in early March 2020, K9 Rico had returned to Sgt. Burleson’s house to enjoy his retirement. On 03/23/2020, K9 Rico fell ill and was taken to Double J Animal Hospital. K9 Rico’s condition was expected to worsen and his quality of life was severely diminished as he had lost his coordination and his ability to stand and walk without falling. K9 Rico passed Sgt. Burleson at his side.
