Complete with ‘pawbearers,’ Final Bow to honor K-9 officer
The Greenville Police Department is mourning the loss of one of their own, K-9 Rex. Complete with “pawbearers,” Rex’s “Final Bow” will take place on April 2. The public is encouraged to attend and bring dog toys, which will be donated in memory of Rex to the Greenville Animal Shelter. Greenville police said Rex died on March 25 after battling inflammatory bowel disease. According to his obituary, Rex had a distinguished career with the Greenville Police Department, which he joined in December 2012. In 2017, he was named “Top Narcotics Dog” by the United State Police Canine Association. That same year, Rex, along with his human partner and handler Robert Pemberton, were named Team of the Year by the Texas Narcotics Officers Association. Rex’s memorial service will take place at 6 p.m. April 2 at the Coker-Mathews funeral home in Greenville. Rex’s fellow K-9 officers will serve as “pawbearers.”
