K-9 Rex euthanized during biting incident
The Georgetown Police Department announced that police K-9 Rex was euthanized following the incident on Aug. 1.GPD said in a release that Rex had bitten a family member of his handler. Authorities were dispatched to remove Rex from the premises when Rex became aggressive and bit one of the handlers. Officials said that Rex’s aggression continued to escalate, and he eventually pinned down the handler while maintaining a strong bite.After ignoring commands to release his bite, “the difficult decision was made to euthanize K9 Rex,” according to the release.“Our Agency considers this to be a critical incident. K9 Rex was a valued partner, and his loss is deeply felt by all,” wrote the police department.
