The Lee County Sheriff’s Department is mourning the loss of one of their own.
K9 Mikka was killed during an officer-involved shooting of a McBee Police Officer late Thursday night into Friday.The suspect in the shooting was confirmed deadafter a standoff in Lee County, by the Darlington County line.The Lee County Coroner’s Office confirmed the identity of the deceased subject as Alston Moldin, 27.He was found Friday morning around 10 a.m. after the standoff near Una Road following a Blue Alert Friday morning.Lee County Coroner Larry Logan said an autopsy will be performed on Tuesday.The McBee Police Officer was shot while responding to an incident on 11th Street near McBee High School, according to Chesterfield County Sheriff Cambo Streater.McBee Police Chief Tim Knight said the suspect fired at the officer “more than 60 times.”Lee County Sheriff Daniel Simon confirmed one of his deputies was grazed by a bullet by shots fired at officers on the scene.Simon said a patrol car burned after it was struck by bullets.He said sadly, the officer couldn’t get to his K9 in the car because of all the shots fired and the dog died in the fire.“We are a smaller agency, and we have to wear several different hats here. We are greatly saddened by the loss of K9 Mikka, who was as much a member of our team as my Chief Deputy who was injured,” said Sheriff Simon. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
