Retired Columbus Police K-9 Maco dies
Retired Columbus Police Department K-9 officer Maco died peacefully on Saturday, May 21. He was 12 years old. Maco, a German Shepard, was born in 2004 in the Czech Republic. He was purchased and trained by Bullocks Police K9 in Greenville, NC. Columbus Sgt. Terry Seely started training with Macco at Bullocks Police K9 when he was just under 2 years old. Macco was then brought back to Columbus. He started with the Columbus Police Department in 2006, and he retired in 2011. Maco was a dual purpose dog, trained in drug detection and patrol work (which included handler protection, evidence/article search, building search and tracking). Maco continued to live with Seely after his retirement and he stayed active, enjoying hikes and time outside.
