New York State Police announce death of K9 ‘Lock’
The New York State Police announced the death of a K9 Wednesday. In a post on Facebook, state police said K9 “Lock” died unexpectedly from an illness on May 4. Lock was nine and a half years old.He was assigned to Trooper Jamie M. Gockel and the duo worked together out of State Police barracks in Oneonta, Sidney, Kingston and Catskill. Lock was named after Sgt. John H. Lockhart. Sgt. Lockhart died on March 23, 1937, after succumbing to a head injury as a result of a fall during a burglary call at a drugstore, state police said.K9 Lock was trained in explosives detection, tracking and handler protection.
