Southington PD Mourns Loss Of Beloved Police K-9

The Connecticut Police Work Dog Association (CPWDA) is sad to announce the passing of retired K9 Kira at the age of 11 years old on 6/17/24 who was partnered with Officer Mel Emond with the Southington Police Department in Connecticut. Officer Emond had to make the hardest walk through those doors to have K9 Kira euthanized because of deteriorating health. As Officer Emond knows, sometimes the best decisions are the hardest to make. There was nothing else Officer Emond could do but to let K9 Kira go in peace. K9 Kira served from 2016 to 2021 and was certified in Patrol and Narcotics. Officer Emond and K9 Kira joined the C.P.W.D.A. on 7/7/17 and became Lifetime Members on that date. K9 Kira we will miss you and we thank you for your service to Southington, Connecticut. CPWDA sends our thoughts and prayers to Officer Mel Emond, his family, and the entire Southington Police Department and friends during this difficult time. Thank you, K9 Kira, for your service, dedication, and loyalty. Officer Emond was honored to have had the opportunity to be at the end of your leash. Rest in peace Kira.
