Police K9 struck and killed by vehicle
A Twin Rivers Police Department K9 officer was hit and killed by a passing car during training exercises Wednesday in West Sacramento, police report. Police officials reported the death of police dog, known as Jag, around 3:10 p.m. Jag, an 8-year-old Belgian Malinois and sole K9 unit, had been with the department for five years, police said.. The police department said Jag somehow got out of the training area’s controlled environment in West Sacramento and was hit by a car. Police said the driver was passing by and was not part of the training. He had been trained in narcotics detection and apprehension. Sgt. Matthew Scott called Jag the most liked member of the department. According to police, the incident was an unfortunate accident with a civilian vehicle and no ongoing investigation is expected. A memorial service will be held; an announcement of the date will be forthcoming, police said.
