Catasauqua police dog dies after brief illness
The Catasauqua Police Department and community are grieving the untimely loss of K-9 Jack, a beloved police dog who died Saturday morning. Jack, 10, died from complications related to a tumor that recently was found near his heart, Police Chief Douglas Kish said. “It was very unexpected,” Kish added. Jack was expected to retire in two weeks after serving the citizens of Catasauqua and the Lehigh Valley for the past eight years. The department posted the news “with great sadness and a heavy heart” on its website Saturday morning. “You served well,” the post said of Jack. “Rest easy, we will take it from here.” Jack was handled by Officer John Wiseman.
