Handler – Officer Jeff Chartier
Retired police dog Harris dies
Retired Peterborough Police dog Harris has died of cancer, the Rotary Club of Peterborough-Kawartha announced Monday. Harris retired at the end of 2011 after seven years of service with the force with handler Jeff Chartier, who is now a traffic sergeant with the force and president of the Peterborough Police Association. Harris continued to reside with Chartier in his retirement. Over the years, Harris helped track hundreds of criminals and lost residents, and took part in raids that took hundreds of thousands of dollars in illegal narcotics off the streets. The Rotary Club of Peterborough-Kawartha had donated the German shepherd dog to the force in 2004, naming him after Paul Harris, the founder of the Rotary Club organization.
