Retired Reedsburg police K9 dies
A retired K9 from the Reedsburg Police Department has passed away.Fritz, 13, died on the afternoon of May 29 after a short illness. He was with his partner, Sgt. Andy Foesch. Fritz had a noteworthy legacy in law enforcement, according to a Reedsburg Police Department news release. He started in Reedsburg in 2005 and worked until retiring in 2014. The average K9 works about 5 years but Fritz surpassed that expectation. The dog excelled at detecting and tracking narcotics and helped solve numerous cases both locally and through other law enforcement agencies. He was also dedicated to his partner, Foesch, and reacted to anyone who approached the officer’s squad car. “The connection between an officer their K9 partner is one of the strongest bonds I’ve ever witnessed,” said Chief Tim Becker. “This relationship was no different. Fritz was a member of the Foesch family and he will be truly missed by Andy, his wife and his children.”
