Orrville Police Department’s 1st K-9, Freddie, dies
The Orrville Police Department is “heartbroken” to share that retired K-9 Freddie died. OPD said his health had been declining, and he crossed the Rainbow Bridge the afternoon of Sept. 13.K-9 Freddie became the Orrville Police Department’s first canine on Dec. 12, 2012, “and we could not have asked for a better K-9 to have started our program with,” OPD stated. His four paws enforced the laws alongside his handler, Ofc. Smith, and ensured the K-9 program thrived, according to OPD. “They were an excellent team!” said OPD.OPD stated K-9 Freddie “enjoyed a wonderful life” as he spent his golden years of retirement with Ofc. Smith by his side.“K-9 Freddie, rest easy, brave hero,” stated OPD. “You will be missed by our department as well as the Orrville Community.”
