Richland County K9 passes away
The Richland County Sheriff’s Department (RCSD) announced the passing of K9 Emmy who has served as a community relations dog for years.K9 Emmy passed away on Tuesday at the age of 10.Deputies said Emy and her partner Lt. Gavin Walmsley visited elementary schools, churches, businesses and community meetings. The K9 and its handler also made TV appearances as ambassadors for RCSD’s Annual Guardians of the Night K9 5K.The department posted the following regarding Emmy’s death: “Our hearts are shattered as we announce that our beloved K9 Emy passed away yesterday at the age of 10. Many of you will remember K9 Emy, as she served Richland County for several years as our community relations dog. Emy and her partner Lt. Gavin Walmsley made many visits to elementary schools, churches, businesses, community meetings and even TV appearances as ambassadors for our Annual Guardians of the Night K9 5K. Based on her size and demeanor, most people never believed that in addition to her community relations job, Emy was also a full service patrol dog certified in criminal apprehension, tracking, and article search. Please keep Lt. Walmsley, his family, this Department, and all who loved K9 Emy in your thoughts and prayers as we mourn the loss of this very special, very good girl.”
