Former Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Edo has passed away at the age of 12.The beloved K-9 died from old age, leaving behind a legacy of service and dedication.Edo retired from active duty on November 9, 2020, and had been living with his former handler, Bryan Underwood.Underwood said he ensured Edo was the happiest K-9 in Wagoner County until his passing.Born on July 28, 2012, Edo was imported from Hungary and purchased by the Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office in 2014.Trained as a dual-purpose K-9, Edo specialized in narcotics detection and patrol duties, including tracking, article searches, and suspect apprehension.Edo’s career was marked by numerous notable achievements.On his first day out of K-9 handler school, Edo and Underwood discovered 26 grams of cocaine hidden in a baby’s diaper during a traffic stop.Throughout his service, Edo was involved in approximately 500 narcotic arrests, leading to significant seizures of vehicles, guns, and other property.Among his notable cases, Edo located 80 grams of methamphetamine hidden under a vehicle hood, leading to a 20-year sentence for drug trafficking.He also assisted in the arrest of a murder suspect and located the murder weapon and victim identification in an open field.Edo’s contributions extended beyond law enforcement.In 2017, he and Underwood achieved the prestigious Police Utility Dog Certification Title from the North American Police Working Dog Association.Edo was also honored with the DHS State Volunteer & Community Partner Awards in 2018 and 2019.Edo was a familiar presence at community events, often performing demonstrations and mingling with the public.His friendly demeanor made him a favorite among Wagoner County citizens.The Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office expressed their sadness at Edo’s passing, stating, “Thank you, Edo, for your service to the Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office and the citizens of Wagoner County.Your service will forever be remembered.
