Police dog accidentally electrocuted
The police dog attached to the Irattaperiyakulam police station in Vavuniya was accidentally electrocuted to death this morning according to police. The incident has taken place at the police ground when the dog’s handler was taking the K9 for routine physical exercises. The handler had also sustained injuries as a result of an electric shock while attempting to rescue the police dog. The handler, a Police Constable by the name of Udayakumara, was admitted to the Vavuniya Hospital following the accident while the two-and-a-half-year-old dog named ‘Cooper’ had died on the spot. The postmortem examination is to be conducted at the veterinary office in Vavuniya South while Iratta Periyakulam Police is conducting further investigations regarding the incident.
