Handler – Corporal David Duran
Retired Stuart police dog dies
A Stuart police dog died Dec. 15 after eight years of service and three in retirement, according to city police. K-9 Cody was 11 years old when he died due to unknown health issues. His handler, Corporal David Duran, said Cody was known for his patrol work, narcotics detection and being great with children. “When children ran up to him and grabbed him, he never once showed any aggression,” Duran said. After Cody retired three years ago, he was replaced by two other police dogs, and has lived at home with Duran. It is typical for dogs to be placed with their handler, said Officer Jeffrey Kittredge, a police spokesperson.
