Fort Smith police announce death of retired K9 officer

It is with great sadness that the Fort Smith Police Department says goodbye to retired K-9 Officer Chico. Chico was born on Oct. 11, 2010. His End-of-Watch was on Feb. 12, 2020, following a long career that included 1,293 arrests and seizures of 126 vehicles, 108 firearms, and over $647,000 in cash. He and Cpl. Cody Elliott, his partner, did their part in taking illegal narcotics off the streets and making Fort Smith a safer place for all its citizens, especially children.Chico officially began his work in May of 2012. He retired in September of 2018 and lived out the remainder of his days with Cpl. Elliott. We are thankful for their service and the bond they shared. Our Department is saddened, and our hearts are with the Elliotts as they grieve the loss of their family member.
