K9 Byoo – San Jose, California

Died 2/21/19

It is with the deepest regret to announce that retired K9 Byoo passed recovering from surgery 0n 2/21/19.He served with the San Jose Police Department for 8 years from 2010-2018.He played an instrumental role in keeping both police officers and the community Throughout his career he helped take several criminals and guns off the street. On his first deployment he located and took a suspect into custody hidden inside of an Italian Cypress tree. The yard had already been hand searched by officers and the suspect may not have been found without the use of K9. In 2014 Byoo was cross trained to locate narcotics. He had several successful finds. He was also trained in tracking/trailing and article searches.Although he found weapons and other items which had been tossed by suspects, the most memorable find was probably finding the house keys (in the dark) which had been lost by his handler after playing at the park. He attended several community and school demonstrations throughout his career helping to educate the role of the K9 unit.He also competed in three K9 trials where he was awarded in each, being ranked in the top five overall. RIP K9 Byoo. Thank you for your years of selfless service. You will never be forgotten!
