Handler – Cpl. Erik Yanyar
The Rhode Island State Police are mourning one of their K-9 officers. The state police announced that K-9 Boris passed away Thursday. Boris was 10 years old. The German shepherd was handled by Cpl. Erik Yanyar and served from 2007 to 2016. Boris specialized in patrol service, narcotics detection and article searching. The department also said the pair was active in investigation involving the Division’s Patrol Bureau and Detective Bureau along with assisting local and federal law enforcement agencies. The department said the duo was involved in several high-profile cases that resulted in the arrest of “numerous offenders and the seizure of umpteen kilograms of illicit narcotics, firearms and U.S. currency.” State police concluded the post by saying K-9 Boris was hard-working and loyal to Yanyar and will be missed by many.
