Two CNMI police dogs die after left in hot patrol car

Two police dogs died after they were left in a hot patrol car. KUAM learned that a funeral service was held for the K9s on Friday at the CNMI Department of Public Safety headquarters.DPS assistant chief of police and acting public information officer Simon T. Manacop told KUAM News that the deaths were “accidental” after the dogs were “left inside a patrol vehicle and the aircon died…blowing hot air.” Manacop said they were left in the car for about 30 minutes as officers were at the DPS HQ to secure drugs that they seized that same morning. The investigation is ongoing and no further details were provided at this time.Saipan Cares for Animals, a non-profit, attended the funeral service and posted to Facebook: “We were invited for the first memorial service for K9 in the history of CNMI at DPS Saipan as a first responder. It was such an emotional ceremony.” They said the dogs’ names were Ross and Beni.
