It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of K9 Remi. K9 Remi was a mixed breed of Belgian Malinois and German Shepherd. Remi was born on February 10, 2015, and became one of the youngest members of the Sunrise Police Department in April 2016. Remi was partnered with Ofc. Jonathan McEvoy. During K9 Remi’s career, he deployed a total of 372 times. Out of those deployments, K9 Remi apprehended 49 criminals, conducted 200 explosive sweeps, and performed in 47 public demonstrations for the citizens of Sunrise. In May 2020, K9 Remi was diagnosed with B Cell Lymphoma cancer and immediately began undergoing treatment.
Remi continued to protect and serve the citizens of Sunrise. Remi’s love for the job led him to the end of his career. Sadly, on December 16, 2020, Remi passed away due to complications of his cancer. Thank you for your service K9 Remi. May you rest in peace.
