Alachua County Sheriff K9 ‘Chief’ dies during training
The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office shared in a Facebook post yesterday the death of one of their K9’s, ‘Chief.’ Authorities said during regular training, K9 Chief experienced a medical emergency while conducting a simulated track. Chief was transported to a veterinarian and a small animal clinic for advanced treatment, but later died with his handler by his side. K9 Chief joined the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office in January of 2018. Authorities said, “Chief is a 3 year old Belgian Malinois from Europe. He was certified in drug detection and criminal apprehension. During his 2 years working within the community of Alachua County, he made numerous arrests for crimes including drugs, guns, burglaries, and robberies.”
