Retired Mooresville Police Canine Officer, Sledge, passed away on Friday, July 5th, 2019, at his home surrounded by his family. Canine Officer Sledge was born in 2013 and became a member of the Mooresville Police Department in 2014 until he was retired at the end of 2018. He was an integral member of the Mooresville Police Department and he and his handler Officer Chris Hester helped the town of Mooresville tremendously in their 4 years of service together. Officer Hester and Canine Sledge were awarded the President’s Award by the American Police Canine Association, in recognition of Outstanding Performance as a Law Enforcement K-9 Team and were named 2017 Narcotics Dedication Team of the Year ( United States Small Level Department). When Sledge wasn’t working with Officer Hester he enjoyed fetching, playing with his football, following and watching his sisters play, and his favorite place to be was by Officer Hester’s side. Sledge will be missed by all who knew him, worked with him, and his close family.
