Handler – SGT Randall Dockens
ATF K-9 dies after toxic substance exposure
K9 Able was trained in Explosive Detection and was assigned to the Dallas Field Division of ATF and worked with his Handler/Partner SGT Randall Dockens for five years service. K9 Able is credited with serving in the shooting deaths of five Dallas Police Officers in July 2016, the Austin Serial Bombings in March 2018 and the Sante Fe School Shooting In May 2018. He and SGT Dockens were a great team and also served in two Superbowls. Able was exposed to a bacteria that infected his kidney and bladder during explosives detection training. He subsequently became ill and his conditions worsened and he died a LODD on January 5, 2019 -10 days after the incident on his way in a private plane to a kidney specialist at Colorado State University Veterinary Climic. He is remembered as a “servant Warrior” and a valuable, loyal and faithful canine law enforcement officer who served in city state and federal agencies with honor and distinction.
