Columbia police dog dies from heat-related injury
A K-9 working with the Columbia Police Department died Saturday from what is being called a “heat-related work injury.” CPD announced on Saturday “the sudden loss of a beloved K-9.” A spokesperson for CPD said the announcement came with “tremendous sadness.” The K-9 office went by the name Turbo. He was a 2-year-old yellow Labrador Retriever who specialized in explosive detection. Master Police Officer D. Hurt worked the dog. Turbo was with CPD for seven months. The K-9 experienced the “heat-related work injury” on Thursday. He passed on Saturday as a result of the incident. “Please keep Turbo, MPO Hurt, and the rest of the CPD Bomb and K-9 Units in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time,” CPD said in a statement.
