Retired Police K9 Mourned by Beverly Hills P.D.
A retired Beverly Hills police dog who assisted in the seizure of more than $1 million in drug money over his career was remembered fondly by his department Wednesday after his death earlier this week. Merlin, who was 16 years and 9 months old, was the longest-living Beverly Hills Police Department K-9, according to BHPD Lt. Elisabeth Albanese. He was also the department’s first Belgian Malinois to be assigned and successfully used within the BHPD Canine Unit. Merlin served from 2005-2011. He “successfully detected numerous large amounts of narcotics” and “assisted in the seizure of well over $1 million dollars of U.S. currency involved in the narcotics trade,” Aolbanese said. Merlin was 16 years and 9 months old.
