It is with deep regret that I announce the passing of canine “Murphy”, who was the devoted and loyal partner of Officer Kenneth Johnson of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police Department. Officer Johnson had to make the difficult decision on January 30, 2018 due to Canine Murphy’s diminishing health. “Murphy” was named is in honor of Michael Murphy, a highly decorated US Navy SEAL who was killed on June 28, 2005, after his team was compromised and surrounded by Taliban forces near Asadabad, Afghanistan.“Murphy” and Officer Kenneth Johnson were assigned to the MTA Police Department Special Operations Division where they protected the citizens of the Metropolitan NYC Area by deterring acts of terrorism and protected countless dignitaries including two sitting United States Presidents. They successfully prevented and solved numerous crimes throughout their career. “Murphy” was certified by the United States Police Canine Association (USPCA) and the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) in Patrol and Explosives Detection. In addition, the team graduated from the MTA PD Canine Training Center “Mass Transit Tactical Canine Program”. “Murphy”, Officer Johnsons loyal and trusted partner will be especially missed by the Johnson family, especially the children, Kyle and Brandon whom he lived to protect and play with.
