La Crosse Police mourns the loss of K9 Loki
The La Crosse Police Department announces the unexpected passing of La Crosse Police Canine Loki.According to the Facebook post, Loki suffered a medical emergency and was rushed to veterinary care. Due to his medical emergency, Loki passed away on November 26, 2024, with his handler Officer Aaron Westpfahl by his side. Loki was born in 2017 in the Czech Republic and joined the department in 2018. That’s where Loki met his K9 handler, Westpfahl. In his time with the La Crosse Police Department, Loki assisted with a variety of things like making apprehensions, drug arrests, article searches, tracking endangered people and making the community a safer place. The German Shephard had over 500 deployments during his career. While Loki took his job seriously, he also enjoyed meeting new people of all ages and would tag along with Westpfahl to many community events. According to the La Crosse Police Department Facebook post, they plan on honoring K9 Loki with a memorial in the coming week.
