Retired North Las Vegas Police K9 to be honored with memorial service
A memorial service with honors will be held for a retired North Las Vegas Police Patrol Service Dog. K9 Ossie, a sable German Shepherd, was born in Czechoslovakia on Jan. 10, 2011, and was imported to the United States by Adlerhorst International of California and certified on Aug. 15, 2012.According to the North Las Vegas Police Department, K9 Ossie faithfully served the community while partnered with two handlers, during which he is credited with apprehending numerous suspects and locating many articles of evidence.K9 Ossie retired from NLVPD on Aug. 11, 2016, and was adopted by a former handler. In his retirement, Ossie enjoyed the easy life filled with camping, travel, and rides in the back of his dad’s Jeep with his nose in the wind.The department said Ossie died from natural causes on Dec.17, 2023. His memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 17 at noon at the Craig Road Pet Cemetery.Officials said K9s provide invaluable assistance to NLVPD and are highly trained to help protect the community by performing officer protection, suspect apprehension, area or building search, and narcotics or explosives detection.
