Beloved K9 partner Ginger has passed away and the Auburn Police Department is mourning
The Auburn Police Department (APD) is filled with sadness to announce the death of their beloved K9 officer, K9 Ginger, on July 7, 2023. K9 Ginger, who served as officer’s dedicated partner Jason Bryan, was a valuable asset to the APD and various law enforcement agencies across the state of Alabama. Many Auburn families offer their condolences to Officer Bryan, who is a popular counselor at APD’s DARE camp with 6th grade Auburn students. During her three-year career, K9 Ginger has lent her exceptional explosive ordnance and firearms recovery skills to support local law enforcement as well as federal operations. Her sense of duty also extended to working with prestigious organizations such as the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and the Transport Security Administration. Before joining APD, Ginger played an important role at Auburn University’s Canine Performance Sciences (CPS) where she mothered several litters. In 2021, Ginger retired from the CPS and was thankfully donated to the APD as an explosives detection dog.Off duty, K9 Ginger enjoyed playing hide and seek with Officer Bryan, demonstrating her unwavering determination and love for her community service. Officer Bryan testifies to her unlimited willingness to work and partner agencies have repeatedly praised her outstanding detection skills. She enjoyed meeting new people and was always eager to show off her skills in public performances, leaving a lasting impression on all who witnessed her remarkable skills. Tragically, K9 Ginger passed away after a short illness surrounded by the people she cared about most: her partner Officer Bryan and the other K9 unit leaders. The Auburn community and the entire state of Alabama will forever be indebted to Ginger for her unwavering commitment to their safety and wellbeing.The Auburn Police Department bids a warm farewell to their remarkable K9 officer and expresses their gratitude for Ginger’s selfless service.
