Handler – Senior Constable Fysh
It is with a very heavy heart that we sadly farewell retired Police Dog (PD) Hahm. A member of the Cairns Dog Squad for five years, PD Hahm was the beloved partner of Senior Constable Dan Fysh.Sadly, retired PD Hahm passed away today, with Senior Constable Fysh right by his side until the very end.Retiring in 2017, PD Hahm was the first police dog for Senior Constable Fysh and did an outstanding job patrolling the streets of Cairns, searching for missing people and apprehending offenders. In 2015, Senior Constable Fysh and PD Hahm were officially recognised for their efforts capturing an armed man in an Innisfail paddock in 2014.When he retired in 2017, PD Hahm remained with the Fysh family and transitioned easily from Police Dog to a beloved family pet. Whilst enjoying retirement, the excitement of seeing a police car pull up in the driveway never waned. It was a tough farewell today as the Fysh family gave their last cuddles and said their final goodbyes to Hahm as his age-related illnesses finally got the better of him.PD Hahm will be dearly missed by the Fysh family and his adopted brother PD Thor. We pass our deepest sympathies onto the Fysh family and express sincere gratitude to PD Hahm for his outstanding service to the Cairns Community and Far Northern Region.
