K-9 Shot, Killed While Tracking Suspect
Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell confirmed this morning that K9 officer Exo was killed in the line of duty Thursday.Exo and his handler, Officer James Prisock, were tracking a suspect wanted by Jackson County Sheriff’s Department when the suspect turned and fired on the officers, hitting Exo twice in the chest. He was rushed to an emergency vet where he succumbed to his injuries.The suspect, Mitchell Wayne Robinson, 36, was being sought in connection with an aggravated assault with a firearm case that occurred about 3:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon in the Helena Community. He was hit when an officer returned fire. He was taken to a local hospital.The investigation is being handled by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation. Robinson also faces a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.MBI also confirmed that Exo died in the line of duty regarding this incident and said the officer involved in the shooting was a Pascagoula officer assigned to the Jackson County Task Force.
