Sarasota police dog Bandi dies while on duty

An 8-year-old police dog who served with the Sarasota Police Department died unexpectedly Thursday while on duty. Officials said the cause of death is undetermined, but veterinarians believe it was natural causes. The dog, a German shepherd named Bandi, had been partnered with Sarasota Sgt. Jonathan Misiewicz since 2016. Bandi was born in 2014 in Hungary and was certified in explosive odor detection, tracking, article search and apprehension. “Bandi was an exceptional police dog and faithful partner to Sgt. Misiewicz,” a police spokesman said in a statement. “Please join us in keeping the Misiewicz family in your thoughts.”
