Beloved retired K9 dies after long career with Fayette County sheriff’s office

The Fayette County sheriff’s office is mourning the death of a beloved member of it’s family. K9 Kai, who retired last year, died Sunday night at the home of his longtime partner retired Sgt. Earl Hanners. Kai joined the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office in 2009 and retired in 2020. “Kai was an excellent dog with an enviable reputation of success, who brought great pride to Sgt. Hanners, the K9 Unit, and the Sheriff’s Office. Like all law enforcement K9′s, he made innumerable contributions to our mission to protect the public, and he made the county a better place for countless citizens. Moreover, Kai was a loyal partner, friend, and member of Sgt. Hanner’s family and the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office family.“Rest in peace Kai. Thank you for your service.
